Is it easy to be kind?
I don’t know that it’s easy. It’s something that you can choose to do, and like most things if you practice, it will become easier. I’m lucky to be at a point in my life where it is easy for me to be kind.

On your hardest days, how are you or are you kind? Do you just let it all go?
Yeah, on my hardest days I am kind. That strength comes from prayer. I realize that my being kind is in everyone’s best interest. On a hard day it’s even more important to make that effort.

Have you ever granted anyone grace?
Yes. I think we all do it. Everyone has something going on whether you see it or not. It’s always important to presume the best of intentions even though what the person may be doing is not really that great. I believe that I should give people the human dignity to be themselves. You can stand up for yourself if you are wronged, but your lovingkindness is likely to be the best alternative in many situations, even in those times when people aren’t acting that great. Moreover, your lovingkindness might be the only thing that the person sees or receives.

We are all human and deserve passes. If we all got what we deserved we’d be in bad shape. There are plenty of people who have given me passes when I did not deserve it. For example, my parents, the whole time I grew up. If you are in a relationship, this is all of the time.

What’s the kindest thing that’s happened to you lately?
My neighbor committed to a standing walking date with me. It’s a selfless gift of her time. She has five children and doesn’t have to do this. I’m grateful for it and I look forward to our walk each week.
